Knee Arthroscopy for Medtech Engineers

Aims & Objectives

The aim of the Knee Arthroscopy for Medtech Engineers course is to provide training in basic principles of knee arthroscopy and the range of common operative procedures performed in knee arthroscopy practice.

This programme is running in collaboration with University College Cork, and the Irish Medtech Skillnet is providing 25% funding towards the cost of the programme for eligible attendees.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing the course, participants will have developed the following surgical skills in a simulated setting:
  • Draping and portal placement for knee arthroscopy
  • Conducting diagnostic knee arthroscopy
  • Removing a loose body
  • Performing a synovial biopsy
  • Recognising the indications for and executing both medial and lateral arthroscopic meniscectomies
  • Recognising the indications for and performing arthroscopic chondroplasty and debridement
  • Recognising the indications for and executing microfractures

Teaching Methodology:
  • Online Lectures: Learn at your own pace and at a time that suits you. Available from October 1st 2024
  • Online Tutorial: Live online face to face with Orthopaedic Surgeon and Anatomist to answer any questions that may arise from lecture material
  • Practical Session: In person surgical skills lab in the ASSERT Centre (Cork) with Human Cadaver specimen . October 22nd 2024 from 9-5pm with Mr Rehan Gul, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Prerequisite:
All participants must have completed AN6020 Fundamentals of Human Structure or provided evidence of attending similar foundational anatomy course

The course is limited to 12 places and these will be offered on a first come first served basis.
